Launched in 2001, the .NAME TLD is the only one meant for personal websites only. These domain names can be personal or fictitious names, aliases and/or other labels people are known by. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also permitted. Existing third-level domains remained operational.
